Eko1Million Yams
Eko 1 Million Yams Project is an agricultural project to feed Lagosians with yams cultivated in Lagos State. The project is powered by Flap Alausa Multipurpose Co-Operative Society. It will involve the cultivation of one million tubers of yams in Epe, Lagos State.
The project will offer Lagosians yams at affordable prices – more than 100% lesser than the current market value of yams which is often affected by the high costs of transportation from the North.
The Eko I Million Yams project is the flagship project of Eko Yams, which the organization embarked upon after the successful cultivation of 10 000 tubers of yams harvested in Epe, Lagos, in December 2022.
Lagos State generates $432.3 billion annually. The Africa Wealth Report 2022, released by Henley & Partners, revealed that the state is currently the fourth wealthiest city in Africa, with a total private wealth of $97 billion.
But there is a huge concern, with an increasing population of 15.4 million people, according to Statista reports, the state is not self-sustainable in terms of agriculture. Lagos state is at the bottom of the agriculture and food production chart, not only in Nigeria but in Africa.

In Lagos, the price of yam is steadily increasing at an alarming rate, and a number of households can no longer afford it. Recently, a sizeable tuber of yam that sold between N700 to N800 as of August 2021 in Lagos, is now between N2, 000 and N2, 500.
According to statistics, an average family in Lagos consumes over 10 tubers of yam monthly, while we have relatively 4.75 Million households in Lagos. Following the poor cultivation of yam in Lagos, it is obvious that the demand for Yam is higher than the supply.
Hence, Yams are being transported from other States where yam is cultivated, which invariably affects the cost of yam in Lagos. To solve the above, we have taken a step further to:
