FAQs

EKO YAMS is an agricultural project centered on the cultivation of yams in Lagos State (Eko), with the aim of feeding Lagosians with food cultivated and processed in Lagos. It is a project that is structured as a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 intervention that aims to achieve “zero hunger” by 2030. Powered by Flapcoop to cultivate 1Million Tubers of yam in 2023.

The Yam farm  is located in Ketu- Epe. Lagos State

The project aims to reduce the cost of Yams to the table of the average Lagosian and ultimately reduce hunger in the Land. We discovered that the high cost of Yams sold in Lagos state is mainly due to the cost of transportation which accounts for almost 60% of the cost of the yam. In addition, Lagos state is the highest consumer of yams grown in other states and currently contributes little or nothing to the yams it consumes. With this project we would be producing Yams in Lagos state for Lagos state.

The project is positioned to benefit all Assetrise Land lords who wish to subscribe with their lands and sponsor the planting of tubers of yams on their farms so that they can have low cost Yams for consumption or sell and earn a profit after harvest.

The cost of impute for a ridge/tuber of yam is 500naira. The Land lord can decide how many ridges to farm on their land subject to a minimum of 50 ridges/tubers. A plot of land (500sqm) can accommodate 600 ridges/tubers.

The 500naira is broken down into;

seedling=300,

Yam Stalk=50,

Ridging=100,

Clearing/weeding=50.

These are some of the costs involved in farming yams at a discounted rate.

Flapcoop’s main objective in cultivating yams on vacant land is to ensure the land is put to better use while the landlord it waiting to build. Since we have acres of land to cultivate it is only right that each land lord indicate interest in being part of the project by Subscribing and funding the cultivation on their own land and earning from the proceeds after harvest. Farming must become intentional for all Nigerians to ensure the food inflation in the land is reduced and subsequently eliminated.

Flapcoop will buy the yam off the Land lord at 650naira meaning the land lord has a 30% gain on their yam farming project. Remember that Flapcoop is not billing land lords for harvesting.
